List of flashcard software

Under flashcard software is meant application programs based on the flash cards principle. Often such programs are used for learning words and therefore referred to a large extent as a vocabulary trainer. For the first time such programs were implemented in the 1980s.

Most vocabulary trainer allow both to create new records, as well as import records. A complete foreign language basic vocabulary that corresponds to the level of general education in Germany is comprised of approximately 2,000 to 4,000 words. A collection of this size can no longer overlook and thus not created by the user readily by hand, there would be gaps and duplicate records.

Operation

Flashcard software works on the principle of a learning index. In addition, the realization of the flashcards on the computer has over a flashcard paper some advantages, such as sound recordings for speech output can be involved with and that a far more sophisticated learning plan can be made.

On the computer can also be an alternative method to apply, in which each card (eg a word and its translation ) is assigned a certain value n, the increases in success by one, decreased in non- success by one. The card is then n positions behind the first card (which will be requested next) backed down. More successful cards repeated by rare than less successful, whereby the latter are repeated very frequently, until they are also among the more successful.

However, both conventional flashcards as this method has the disadvantage that the decision as to which substance when must be repeated arbitrarily like. Therefore, some offer software titles a repeat specification, the user selects the " modest says " once a card has to be repeated.

Flashcard software and social software

For some years there is a trend to combine learning software with the possibilities of social software. Result of these efforts, for example, online flashcard software systems in which the user can create flashcards himself in order to learn in a learning mode, which is an illustration of the Leitner system.

One advantage of the combination of social software with flashcard software is that users working together to investigate in learning groups a single box, but this can learn independently. Another advantage is that users can put their flashcards to other users for learning. The downside to this method is that the learner is placed largely on their own and thus this kind of learning software is only suitable for self-study.
