List of French consorts

The title of Queen of France ( reine de France ) was merely an honorary title. In accordance with the Salic law it was entitled " épouse de roi de France " or " épouse de roi des Français ". The queen had no government authority was except as regent in the absence and minority of the king, although not automatically state them, but forgive himself.

  • Margaret of Scotland († 1445 ), 1436 first wife of Louis XI. († 1483 ), died before the throne
  • Maria Josepha of Savoy († 1810), 1771 Wife of Louis XVIII. († 1824), died before the throne
