List of Japanese era names

Nengō are names for a Japanese era after era.

Was the annual census of the enthronement of the respective ruler 645 ago. However, the Tennō least until Nintoku are legendary. The annual counts to Suiko are traditionally come and, outside of the oldest kingdom chronicles, hardly scientifically verifiable.

In the table the year is stated after the Gregorian calendar, which launched the era.

To determine from the Japanese year the year the Gregorian calendar, one searches in the list the first year of nengō ( = era name), deducts 1 and adds the Japanese year. For example, is the 23rd year of Showa Era ( Showa 23) according to the Western calendar 1926-1 23 = 1948.
