The Logitech G15 is a special developed for computer keyboard player of the Swiss company Logitech. The published in October 2005 keyboard offered as first keyboard for home users an LC display and made accessible as a first programmable macro keys with the masses. The G15 has influenced subsequent models from different manufacturers and currently serves as a reference product for gamers keyboards. In response to the high demand a second, revised version of the keyboard has been brought to market in 2007, the second version is not necessarily better in the eyes of many customers and the trade press.

Technology

LC display

The fold-out ( only on the first edition ) LCD located in the center of the keyboard above. It is black and white with blue backlight and has a resolution of 160 × 43 pixels. Below the display are five buttons attached that are used to control the display.

G-keys

The keyboard features, depending on the version, six and 18 additional keys, so-called G-keys. These buttons are located on the left edge of the keyboard and can be either by entering information directly on the unit or via the included software, be linked to macros. Above the G-keys, there are four more buttons ( M 1, M 2, M 3 and MR). Use these buttons to the quick access to three different profiles is possible MR allows the user to create without the program supplied by Logitech to open new macros. On the keyboard each G key can therefore be occupied three times.

Lighting

All of the buttons of the Logitech ( excluded the spacebar ) have G15 as the display has a backlight, this is controlled by a button in three stages. USB Hub

Special keys

Software

Macros

The macros that the G-keys are assigned, can be entered directly from the keyboard or via the included drivers either. Available LCD applets

There are a number of so-called applets for the G15, both for games and for programs. Some of the applets originate from Logitech itself, most of it was however developed by fans.

Games

The list of games officially support currently includes about 50 titles (as of 19 October 2008), which for some games in addition to the driver, a patch is still needed. The keyboard is supported by well-known manufacturers such as Activision, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, and others. The display is used differently depending on the game, mostly it serves but to display information such as life energy, speed, or ammunition.

Programs

In the current version of the driver five applets are already integrated:

  • LCD Clock: Display an analog and a digital clock, as well as of the current date
  • Performance Monitor: Current RAM and CPU usage
  • Countdown - Timer: Stopwatch and countdown
  • Media Display: Displays information about the current playing a variety of audio and video player
  • POP 3 Monitor: Notifies you of incoming messages on a POP 3 mailbox

Other official applets are available for the programs Fraps, Xfire and Ventrilo.

In addition, there are also a large number of unofficial applets, ranging from virtual pets up to administration interfaces for servers.

NM monitor

The NM monitor is one of the most extensive applets for the G15. It has the following functions:

The NM monitor is compatible with the G13, G15, G19, Z -10 and G510 from Logitech.

Easter Eggs

Two Easter Eggs are hidden in the software:

  • By clicking on the G1 key icon under "Help / Info" of the Logitech G-series Key Profiler the credits appear next to a beer mug on the G15 display.
  • If you press the Shift key in the clock layout settings one has three more watches to choose from: A flower and two smileys.

G15 on Linux

For Linux software called g15daemon is available that allows the operation of the display. G15daemon provides as well as the original software from Logitech, a clock with date display that also are more applets, eg for Audacious available. The multimedia keys can be eg. configure xbindkeys. KDE Plasma Desktop will support in the upcoming version 4.6 plug-ins for the notification system. As an example, a display of the notifications on the G15 is settled.

Second Edition

In late 2007, Logitech due to popular demand, a new version of the G15 out. In addition to a completely new design, the buttons now have an orange lighting. Instead of 18 G-keys, this keyboard has only six G keys, making the keyboard is narrower. For the G-keys, there are three modes in which the keys can each be individually configured so that one again has 18 assignable buttons. The display is no longer folded, the dimensions become smaller, but the resolution remained the same, and the display now has an orange font. Additionally, the volume control wheel has been replaced by two normal keys. As with its predecessor, the USB ports are also in the new model is limited because of the low amperage available. The driver and software of the two versions are the same, so that all applets are compatible with each other. Among the fans, the new version is controversial. The old version is no longer being manufactured.

G11

The Logitech G11 is a keyboard available in October 2006, based on the old version of the G15, but without LCD. But it is much cheaper than the G15.

G19 and G19s

In January 2009, Logitech introduced the Logitech G19 as the successor of the G15; new is a color LCD with 320x240 pixels. The G19 has been available since April 2009. The end of 2013, the new edition appeared G19s.
