List of tourism regions of Slovakia

In Slovakia, there are officially following regions for the purposes of tourism:

Classification of 1980/1981

This classification is based on the documents " Rajonizácia cestovného ruchu CSSR " of 1962 and " Rajonizácia cestovného ruchu SSR " of 1980. The main unit is called " tourist area " ( oblasť cestovného ruchu ). The main units are usually divided in 2-4 additional subunits. In this division of the middle part of the Danube lowlands and the southeastern part of the East Slovak Lowland regarded as no tourist areas ( they are not included in the following list ). Within the parentheses is the top priority, if any, of the folk / abbreviated name, followed by a literal German translation of the official name:

  • Bratislavská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Bratislava", Bratislava area; Zahorie including (without Senica area) and the Little Carpathians )
  • Podunajská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Podunajsko "; Danube area )
  • Senička oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Senica area)
  • Piešťansko - Trenčianska oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Piešťany, Trenčín Region)
  • Žilinská oblasť cestovného ruchu (Žilina Region)
  • Kysucká oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Kysuca "; Kischütz area )
  • Malofatranská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Malá Fatra "; Small Fatra - area)
  • Orava oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Orava "; Arwa area)
  • Turčianska oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Turcianska "; Turz area)
  • Hornonitrianska oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Upper Nitra "; Upper Neutra area)
  • Štiavnicko - Kremnická oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Banská Štiavnica - Kremnica area)
  • Levická oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Levice district)
  • Polanská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Polana "; Polana area)
  • Nízkotatranská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Low Tatras "; Low Tatras area; including Liptau )
  • Vysokotatranská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " High Tatras ", High Tatras region, including Spis Magura and Pieniny )
  • Spisská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Spis "; Zips area)
  • Oblasť cestovného ruchu Slovenského Raja ( " Slovak Paradise "; area of the Slovak Paradise )
  • Gemerská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Gemer "; Gemer area)
  • Juhoslovenská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Südslowakisches area; between Levice and Slovak Karst )
  • Oblasť cestovného ruchu Slovenského Krasu ( " Slovak Karst "; territory of the Slovak Karst )
  • Košice oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Košice "; Košice region )
  • Prešovská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Prešov region )
  • Vihorlatská oblasť cestovného ruchu ( " Vihorlat "; Vihorlat area)
  • Laborecká oblasť cestovného ruchu ( Laborec area)

Classification of 2004/2005

This classification is based on the document " Regionalizácia cestovného ruchu v SR " of 2004, which turizmu from Ústav, sro was created for the Slovak Ministry of Economy. The main unit is called " tourism region " ( región cestovného ruchu ). In this classification, the territory of Slovakia is completely covered:

  • Bratislavskı región cestovného ruchu ( " Bratislava"; Bratislava region)
  • Podunajský región cestovného ruchu ( " Podunajsko "; Danube Region)
  • Záhorský región cestovného ruchu ( " Zahorie "; Marchauen region)
  • Dolnopovažský región cestovného ruchu ( " Dolné Považie "; Waag territory)
  • Strednopovažský región cestovného ruchu ( " Stredné Považie ", middle Waag territory)
  • Severnopovažský región cestovného ruchu ( " SEVERNE Považie "; region of the Northern Territory Waag )
  • Nitriansky región cestovného ruchu ( " Nitra "; Neutra region)
  • Hornonitriansky región cestovného ruchu ( " Upper Nitra "; Upper Neutra region)
  • Orava región cestovného ruchu ( " Orava "; Orava region )
  • Turčiansky región cestovného ruchu ( " Turcianska "; Turz region)
  • Horehronský región cestovného ruchu ( " Horehronie "; Upper Gran area )
  • Pohronský región cestovného ruchu ( " Pohronské "; Gran area)
  • Ipeľský región cestovného ruchu ( " Poiplie "; Eipel region)
  • Gemerský región cestovného ruchu ( " Gemer "; Gemer region)

Other classifications

Various guidebooks and maps publishers have their own divisions. An example is the following card, mostly does not coincide with the above current official classification.
