LiteStep

LiteStep is an alternative user interface (shell ) for Microsoft Windows, which is developed under the GPL. The shell is thus a replacement for the standard functions from Windows 95

It was inspired by AfterStep, which in turn was inspired by NeXTSTEP. LiteStep was originally April 1998 by Francis Gastellu as a closed- source project developed ( version b23 ). A new development team then wrote it again. LiteStep is one of the oldest Windows shell alternatives. It is based on the idea of a narrow core and many rechargeable configurable modules ( DLLs). This high degree of flexibility, each user can adapt the system to his needs.

The development of LiteStep has due to the composition of the development team temporarily dropouts. The program is but continuously developed.

The level of awareness of LiteStep is much lower than in countries such as England, France and the USA in Germany. This is due to the lack of well-developed communities, and on the other the previous lack of a German documentation LiteStep.
