Lithophyte

Under Lithophytes (Greek lithos = λίθος "stone" and φυθόν Phyton = "plant" ) refers to plants that grow on or in rock. Roots can penetrate it may also in the rock, by solving it. The minerals needed for their growth relate lithophytische plants from a moss pad, the atmosphere ( rain water, dust) or own dead tissue parts.

The Lithophytes include, for example, various representatives of the genera Paphiopedilum orchids or Dendrobium, some carnivorous plants such as Nepenthes campanulata or Pinguicula gypsicola and some species of the genus Tillandsia bromeliads.
