Little Pine River

The Little Pine River is a small river in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It flows into the Pine River, a tributary of the upper Mississippi River.

Key data

According to the USGS ( streamstats.usgs.gov ) of the river is 49 km long (including lakes flowing through it ) and has a catchment area of 365 km ². This is about 6.34% of standing water bodies and adjacent to the northeastern Crow Wing County also includes small areas of adjacent counties Cass and Aitkin. It rises to 390 meters above sea level and flows through five lakes. The Little Pine River is the only river of that name in the United States.

Course

The river has its origin in the Little Pine Lake in the northeast corner of Crow Wing County. The uppermost portion of the water body is straightened and is headed to the small Caraway Lake. The first lake to the Little Pine River is flowing through the Duck Lake, followed by Lake Mary and Lake Emily. The latter is just under 3 km ² the largest lake in the course of the Little Pine Rivers. After Emily Lake, the river flows partly mäanderbildend mainly in southern direction. Below the confluence with the Mud Brook is the Little Pine River turns to the southwest. Before it empties into the Pine River, it flows through even a wetland and the Rice Lake Bed and feeds the last 0.4 km ² Google Lake.
