Liu Xie

Liu Xie (刘 勰Chinese, Pinyin Liú Xie; * by 465, † 522) was a Chinese writer. His book The literary mind and the carving of dragons ( Chinese "文心雕龙" Wen Xin Diao Lóng Pinyin ) is considered the most important work on the aesthetics and is also the first work of literary criticism in China. It consists of 50 chapters (篇) and follows the numerological and prophecy -like principles of the I Ching.

Liu Xie came from today's Jiangsu Province and lived while Liang Dynasty. His resume is narrated in the Book of Liang. He was a follower of Buddhism and helped up to his death in the publication of the sutras to Ding Lin (定 林寺) monastery.
