Liván López

Livan Lopez Azcuy ( born January 4, 1982 in San Juan y Martínez ) is a Cuban wrestler. He won a bronze medal in free style at lightweight at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Career

Livan Lopez Azcuy began as a nine- year-old in his hometown of San Juan y Martinez in Pinar del Río with the rings and went through the entire state elite sport delivery system, beginning with his induction into the Sport Development School ( EIDE) in the summer of 1993 to the end of his sports studies in 2011 and his ongoing affiliation with the national squad. Today, he focuses on the free style and belongs to the Sports Club Cerro Pelado Havana. His trainer is Julio Mendieta. At a size of 1.74 meters, he is struggling at lightweight, the weight category to 66 kg body weight. He had his first major international success in April 2011 in Rionegro (Colombia ) with his victory at the Pan American Championships before Teyon goods from the United States and Elvis Fuentes Blanco from Venezuela. At the World Championships 2011 in Istanbul, he defeated Heinrich Barnes of South Africa, Kim Dae -sung of South Korea, Ichtiyor Nawrusow from Uzbekistan and the silver medalist of the 2008 Olympics Andrei Stadnik from Ukraine. In the semifinals he was defeated by Mehdi Taghavi Kermani of Iran and in the fight for a bronze medal he defeated none other than the Olympic champion in 2008 in the featherweight Mawlet Batirow from Russia. In October 2011, he finally won even at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara before Pedro Soto Cordero of Puerto Rico, Yoan Blanco Reinoso from Ecuador and Teyon Ware.

In 2012, he was also employed at the Olympic Games in London. He started there again in the lightweight and defeated the world champion of 2011 Mehdi Taghavi Kermani and took so successful revenge for the defeat against this wrestler at the World Cup 2011. After this fight he lost to eventual Olympic champion Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu of Japan, but then won in the consolation round with victories over Haislan Garcia Veranes from Canada and Jabrail Hasanow from Azerbaijan yet an Olympic bronze medal.

At the World Championships in 2013 in Budapest, he was back at the start and secured there with wins over Bai Tuan Anh, Vietnam, Takahiro Inoue, Japan, Kang Jin Hyeok, North Korea, Haislan Garcia Veranes, kanda and Mandachnaran Ganzorig, Mongolia and one defeat in the final against Dawid Safarjan, Armenia, the silver medal.
