LiVES

LiVES ( LiVES Video Editing System) is a free, non-linear video editing application for the Linux operating system.

LiVES has to integrate an interface for add-on modules to decoder, encoder and effects. By making use of MPlayer and MEncoder a myriad of video formats can be read and printed. It can also be imported directly from material connected with FireWire video cameras and audio CDs.

There are one hand, a multi-track mode for non- destructive editing. Here multiple audio and video tracks can be arranged on a timeline, apply effects and transitions are decorated.

In addition, there is the " clip mode " with real-time features, which is particularly interesting for video artists for visual performances. Here can be played in variable speed, superimposed and are provided with real-time effects of a collection of video snippets clips. For this purpose, it is controlled via keyboard, joystick or MIDI controller and can be remotely controlled via a computer network.

Development

Developer of the software is Gabriel Finch, who works itself as a video artist. He began work on the project in late 2002. The version 1.0.0 was released in July 2009.
