Liz McColgan

Liz McColgan (birth name: Elizabeth Lynch, born March 24, 1964 in Dundee) is a former Scottish long-distance runner.

You already won in 1976 at the age of 12 years, the Dundee Schools Cross Country Championship. She won the 10,000 m at the Commonwealth Games in 1986 in Edinburgh. At the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland, it reached gold in the 10,000 m and bronze over 3,000 m.

At the Olympic Summer Games in Seoul in 1988, she won the silver medal in the 10,000 m behind Olga Bondarenko (URS ) and before Jelena Schupijewa - Wjasowa (URS ). At the World Athletics Championships 1991, she won the gold medal in the same discipline. In the same year she was elected to the UK Athlete of the Year.

Also known as marathon runner, she was successful. She won the 1991 New York City Marathon, the 1992 Tokyo International Women's Marathon and the 1996 London Marathon, where she was second in 1997 and 1998. She also won three times the Great North Run a half marathon distance ( 1992, 1995, 1996).

Liz McColgan lives with her husband Peter McColgan, a former long-haul and hurdler, and five children in Carnoustie in Dundee. After the end of their active sports career in 1999, she opened a private health club and began to train young talents. In 2004, she was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame.
