Lloyd Cole

Lloyd Cole ( born January 31, 1961 in Buxton, England ) is a British singer and songwriter, who had his greatest successes in the 1980s with his band Lloyd Cole and The Commotions.

Life

The philosophy student Lloyd Cole and some of his fellow students at the University of Glasgow founded in 1982 the band The Commotions. Originally founded as a large soul band, the number of members reduced rapidly to five: In addition to Cole as a singer, these were the keyboardist Blair Cowan, guitarist Neil Clark, bassist Lawrence Donegan and drummer Stephen Irvine. In 1984 the band released in the Major Polydor debut album Rattlesnakes. The first single Perfect Skin (UK 26) has already reached the Top 30 in the UK. The follow-up album Easy Pieces threw Lost Weekend (UK 17) and Brand New Friend ( UK 19 ) from two veritable radio hits. The third album was in 1987 at the same time mainstream climax and end of the band's career. The single My Bag (UK 46) even reached the disco charts.

Lloyd Cole moved to New York City and was continued to work as a solo artist. While his debut - 1990 appeared under the name of Lloyd Cole and Fred Maher (drums ), Robert Quine (guitar) and Matthew Sweet ( bass) recorded - still resembled the independent work with the Commotions, fully led the 1991 album Do not Get Weird on Me, Babe a twist to perfectly produced (Paul Buckmaster ) and string lastigem pop.

The great commercial success failed, and so Cole had trouble finding a U.S. distributor for his 1993 released album Bad Vibes. With the album Love Story Cole took place in 1995 back to its roots with the Commotions, not least because Neil Clark again played the guitar. The relationship with Polydor was disturbed due to unsatisfactory sales figures, although Lloyd Cole first time in several years with Like Lovers Do (UK 24) again had a Top 30 hit in the UK charts. The record company refused, the 1996 album rehearsed Etc. to publish. A 1998 -released compilation called Collection sold again not good enough that you wanted to bring a new album on the market.

It was not until 2000/2001 Cole was able to free contract as artistic and both negative with his one - album - one - tour band The ( Jill Sobule with, Dave Derby, Adam Schlesinger and Michael Kotch ) the album The Negatives (produced by Stephen Street ) publish, and in rapid succession album Etc. finally bring out its foray into Electronica Plastic Wood and a bootleg Loaded: Live in New York to introduce the fans.

2003 saw the album Music in a Foreign Language with Nick Cave Cover People Is not No Good. For the 20th anniversary of the debut album was 2004 Polydor Deluxe Edition of Rattlesnakes out.
