Loa is a town and the county seat of Wayne County in the U.S. state of Utah.

Geography

The village lies at the Utah State Route 24 at an altitude of 2147 m. It covers an area of 2.3 km ² ( 0.9 mi ²).

History

Loa got its name from Franklin Young, who carried out a mission of the LDS Church to the Hawaiian Islands. Mauna Loa is the second highest mountain and active volcano of the Hawaiian Islands. During an outbreak, Franklin Young forgave the name Loa, which means high, large and active.

Demography

According to the United States Census Bureau, 165 households, and 134 families formed the place. Of the 510 inhabitants ( 2000) are 99.24 % White and 0.76 % other races.
