Local Internet Registry

A Local Internet Registry (LIR ) is an organization of (RIR ) is a block of IP addresses has been assigned by a Regional Internet Registry and Its largely served their end customers. Most LIRs are Internet service providers, enterprises and academic institutions.

A membership to a RIR is a prerequisite to be LIR.

Situation in Germany

In Germany there are 968 LIRs. These are divided into 9 " extra large", 33 "large ," 143 "medium", 557 "small " and 235 " extra small ".

Situation in Austria and Switzerland

In smaller countries like Austria or Switzerland can be found under "extra large ", " large" and "medium" largely national telephony companies and international suppliers.
