Locate (UNIX)
Locate ( in German " localize " ) is a program from UNIX to quickly find files by specifying search terms based on the file name, and, in newer versions, with the help of regular expressions. Is Searches a database that is updated by the utility updatedb ( usually via a cron job ) at regular intervals. This database contains a list of all files on the system, causing you to quickly locate files is possible - as opposed to find that the entire dataset by looking at each search anew. In modern UNIX distributions such as GNU / Linux often comes slocate is used, which has been extended to some security aspects. slocate is part of the GNU Findutils (see links).

$ Locate bash / usr / bin / bashbug / bin / bash Updating the database:
