Loch Arkaig

Loch Arkaig is situated in the Scottish Highlands freshwater lake. It is located in Spean Bridge, about 15 kilometers north of Fort William and about 5 kilometers west of the Great Glen. Loch Arkaig is about 19 kilometers long and is located approximately 50 m ASL high. The maximum water depth is 109 meters.

The main tributaries are the Dessarry and Pean, passing through the Glens, which bear the names of rivers. They open in the west, near the village of Strathan in the hole Arkaig. The Lochaber Mountains lie to the north and the forest of Locheil adjacent to the south. Starting from the east of Loch Arkaig the river Arkaig flows towards Loch Lochy. The river passes in its course Achnacarry.

In Loch Arkaig there are two islands. The larger of them bears the name Eilean hole Arceig. On it there is a chapel ruin. From Scottish Clan Cameron, this island was used as a burial place. On the island brooded 1908 or fish eagle. These were to the last Scottish breeding pair until this bird of prey, repopulated their own efforts from the 1950s Scotland.
