Lohrheidestadion

The Lohrheidestadion is located in the city of Bochum district Wattenscheid and was built in 1954 as a combined stadium for athletics and football.

History

The stadium has been used since 1965/66 as a venue for the football club SG Wattenscheid 09 It is up to the Lohrheidestrasse. In the 2003 /04 season the second team of FC Schalke 04 played in Lohrheidestadion. Since the 2008/ 09 season the Regional VfL Bochum II plays its home games from here. 2011 took place the DLV Gala in Wattenscheider Stadium for the fifth time.

In 2002, the stadium to host the German Athletics Championships was expanded. The renovation has cost a total of about 5 million euros. In June 2010, a start was made to lay a new drainage system under the field, which was completed in summer 2012. In 2005 and 2012 the Lohrheidestadion was more times the venue of the National Track and Field Championships.

The stadium has a capacity of 16,233 seats, of which 5,033 seats and 11,200 standing places.

During the football World Cup Women 2011, the venue served as the official training base.
