The Loing is a river in north-central France, passes through several regions and départements. It rises at Sainte- Colombe- sur -Loing in 320 meters above sea level on the heights of the Puisaye. First, it drains to the northwest, but then turns north and ends after 142 kilometers at Saint- Mammès as a left tributary of the Seine. From Rogny -les- Sept- Écluses the Canal de Briare accompanied the river. As for Bourges, near Montargis, this goes into the still parallel to the river running Canal du Loing. Here also currently being decommissioned Canal d' Orléans opens. The channels used to be for supply of Paris is of great importance, are now used mainly but only for recreational purposes.

Water supply of Paris

In the catchment area of the Loing and its tributary Lunain beginning of the 20th century were passed several sources and is derived in a 91 km long water line, the aqueduc du Loing et du Lunain, in the direction of Paris. The aqueduct joins in the forest of Fontainebleau, west of Moiret -sur -Loing, with the other two water pipes aqueduc de la Vanne and the aqueduc de la Voulzie. All three together make the drinking water supply of Paris from the south dar.
