Loket

Loket ( Elbogen German ) is a town in Okres Sokolov ( Carlsbad Region ), located on the Eger ( Czech Ohře ) in the Czech Republic. The entire historic center is a conservation area under special state protection. Because of its townscape Loket was also often praised as Bohemian Rothenburg. The city is a traditional destination for spa guests of Karlovy Vary.

Geography

Loket is situated on a granite ridge, which is bordered on three sides by the Eger, hence the name: loket ( German elbow).

History

Loket castle in a prominent place is very old. Probably built in the late 12th century, it was mentioned in 1234 as a royal Bohemian border castle. Since the beginning of the 13th century, it was the administrative center of the Zettlitzer Ländchen. 1227 Elbogen was mentioned as " civitas ". In the Middle Ages a champion was singing school after the Nuremberg model. Against the Hussites Elbogen successful resistance. 1521 the Reformation was introduced and promoted by the Counts of Schlick. The Saxon Colonel Thumshirm invaded Bohemia in 1547 and captured the city. Elbogen was since the 15th century until 1848 the seat of the western Bohemian circle ( circle Loket, Czech Loketský kraj ) of 1714-1751 temporarily the ( circle Saaz, Czech Žatecký kraj ) was slammed. The Pumpernickel manufactured since 1823 have been delivered to the imperial house in Vienna.

In 1836, in a Elbogen Chain Bridge, one of the first in Bohemia, erected. They spanned the Eger, 22 m height. In the 1930s it was replaced by a concrete bridge.

After the Second World War, the German inhabitants were dispossessed and displaced.

In 2006, the James Bond movie Casino Royale was filmed with Daniel Craig and Others in Loket.

The town of Loket consists of the districts Dvory ( courtyards ), Loket ( Elbogen ), Nadlesí ( Nallesgrün ) and Údolí ( Zech ). Basic settlement units are Dvory, Loket, Nadlesí, Nádražní Předměstí, Slavkovské Předměstí, Sokolovské Předměstí and Údolí II

The municipality is divided into the Katastralbezirke Dvory u Lokte, Loket, Nadlesí and Údolí u Lokte.

Twinning

  • Illertissen ( Germany ) took over the sponsorship in 1953 for the victims of the elbow. Meanwhile, it has also become a partnership between Illertissen and today's Czech town.

Traffic

Loket Loket was awarded in 1877 by the Local railway a rail connection to Nové Saddleback u Lokte ( Neusattl ). 1901, the line was extended until Krasny Jez (Schön weir) for connection to the route Marianske Lazne Karlovy Vary. Since 1996, only the link is operated by Nove Saddleback, where connection is made to the trains of the main track Chomutov - Cheb.

  • Stayed Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, from Carlsbad coming several times in Elbogen and remarked, ". It is beyond description beautiful and can be used as a work of art from any angle " in 1823 he celebrated with Ulrike von Levetzow in Schwarzenberg summerhouse his 74th birthday.
