Long-term Ecosystem Observatory

Longtime Ecological Observatory ( LEO short ) is a project off the coast of New Jersey ( USA), under the initiative of Rutgers University, Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences. This should, processes are recorded in the ocean with the help of IT systems. Already installed are sensors for measuring temperature, salinity, transmittance, light absorption, fluorescence, pressure and flow.

Higher internet speeds are once technically possible, it should be possible to observe plankton directly online and evaluate. This will be achieved by quantitative in situ microscopes ( EcoScope ) that allow insights into the marine world, as for example in the history of the eels.
