Lopon Tsechu

, Rinpoche ( born 1918 in Punakha in Bhutan, † 10 July 2003 in Bangkok ) was a meditation master of Tibetan Buddhism.

Buddhist education

He received his Buddhist education by his uncle, the tantric master Sherab Dorje, who spent decades of his life in solitary meditation. Lopön tsechu was close to the Drukpa Kagyu School and was a close confidant of the royal family of Bhutan. Later he met the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Dorje Rigpe, who became one of his most important teachers. From him he received transmits the entire transmission of the Karma Kagyu school.

Importance for Buddhism in the Himalayas and worldwide

Due to its multi-decade high activity was, Rinpoche as a key figure for the cohesion of the different Buddhist communities in Nepal and throughout the Himalayan region. , Rinpoche visited Spain for the first time in 1990, when he gave teachings and transmissions in Karma Guen, a Buddhist meditation center in the vicinity of Vélez-Málaga, about 50 km from Benalmádena-Costa Beach. He built his first stupa in Karma Guen in 1994, a symbol of peace and prosperity for Spain., Rinpoche was asked to build a further 16 stupas in Europe before his death in 2003. He obtained Spanish citizenship in 1995 and from then visited the country regularly, where he gave teachings and transmissions.
