The airfield Lord Howe Island (English Lord Howe Iceland Airport, IATA: LDH, ICAO: YLHI ) is the only airport of the same Lord Howe Island.

The airfield has a runway other than his shelf, which provides space for two aircraft of smaller size, and a small terminal building. The runway itself is located approximately in the center of the island in diagonal position and ends at both sides just before reaching the shore of the Tasman Sea. It has a length of nearly 1005 meters, of which, however, only 886 meters may be used as a runway (the remaining nearly 120 meters are approved only for start along the path towards 28).

Airlines and destinations

2008 Qantas Airways and Australian Air Express flew several times in a week from Sydney and Brisbane from the island.

In addition to tourists seedlings of Kentia palms are shipped by air, especially on the island produced.

Approach

Due to the small size of the island, there are few cars and no public transport. The airfield is bounded on two sides by a road over which it is directly accessible.

History

At first the island had no runway, but was served by seaplanes which wasserten within the lagoon formed by a coral reef. Due to the increasing air traffic, on the one hand by increasing tourist use, and especially by the growing export of Kentia palm seedlings, a firm runway was built in the 1980s on the island.
