Lord of Parliament
A Lord of Parliament is a member of the lowest rank in the higher nobility of Scotland ( Peerage of Scotland). The Lord of Parliament is the Scottish equivalent of the English baron.
In Scotland, is not - as in the rest of the United Kingdom - the baron is the lowest rank of the nobility, as the term baron in Scotland is not a title of nobility, but the holder of a feudal law referred to ( " feudal baron ").
The term Lord of Parliament exists only in the masculine form and has no female equivalent. The holders of a Lordship of Parliament is referred to as Lord X or Lady X. Likewise, ie the wife of Lord Lady X. The presumed heir to the title bears the courtesy title The Master / The Mistress of [ title of nobility ], the younger children are when The Honourable [ first name ] [ last name] addressed.
The bestowal of titles of a Lord of Parliament ended when Scotland and England were united in 1707 to the United Kingdom. Then the title of Baron was uniformly used.
