History

The hut was in 1880 on behalf of Charles John Spencer George Canning, III. Baron of Garvagh (s: Baron Garvagh ) built. Canning was at this time going to write a book about Norwegian mountains and knew the area because his father often went there on reindeer hunting since the 1860s.

The hut was built as an elongated stone with low walls and contains two rooms: a vestibule serves as storage space for firewood, food and hiking equipment, and behind it a living room with fireplace. She was probably the first mountain hut world, which was built as a holiday and not as a refuge.

Charles John Spencer George Canning and his father Charles Henry Spencer George Canning, II Baron of Garvagh, the establishments of ten " Lordehyttas " in Rondane and the area of the Aurlandfjord overall attributed, from which another is still usable today.

The hut was built by the Folarskardnuten Norwegian Lars Lein ( from Sudndalen ). Lein was a successful hunter, Canning had met on his first hunting vacation in the region. Canning proved to be the construction as eccentric and ordered, among other things, that the wood carried to the construction site, and should not be edited there.

The Lordehytta was fully renovated in 1990 and has since been regularly serviced. The use of the hut as well as their existing stores (including the firewood supply ) is free for all guests in walkers, but donations are welcome.
