Lords of the Underground

The Lords of the Underground ( LOTUG ) are an American hip hop group from Newark (New Jersey). It consists of the MCs Mr. Funke and Doitall Dupré and DJ Lord Jazz.

The Lords were relevant to the so-called Golden Age of Hip Hop in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Their biggest hits were the singles Funky Child, Chief Rocka and Tic Toc. Most of her pieces produced Marley Marl.

For their first album Here Come the Lords ( 1992) they received in 1993 an award as best rap group in 1993 by Black Entertainment Television. On the title track of their second album Keepers of the Funk (1994 ), there is a cameo by George Clinton. This song is less raw and melodic unconventional than most of her other pieces.

From about 1992, the public taste changed itself strongly in the direction of Gangsta Rap. Thus, the Lords of the Underground, as well as similar groups lost significantly in importance.

Your reunion album Resurrection was released in 1999 on Queen Latifah's Jersey Kidz label, but was hardly noticed due to lack of promotion. Was released in 2007 the album House of Lords.
