Lorenc Antoni

Lorenc Antoni ( born September 23, 1909 in Skopje, † 21 October 1991 in Pristina ) was a Yugoslav composer, choral conductor, ethnomusicologist and music educator. He is considered the most important Albanian-speaking composer of Yugoslavia.

Life

Lorenc Antoni founded in 1948 in Prizren, the first music school in the province of Kosovo; this was named after Josip Štolcer - Slavenski, but now bears the name Antonis. Until 1956 he was Director of the School of Music.

From 1956 he was music editor at Radio Pristina. He composed works for choir and orchestra. These works take on elements of the Albanian folk music. He also put together an extensive collection of Albanian folk songs and published books and articles on the subject. He also directed several choirs.
