Lorenzo Semple, Jr.

Lorenzo Semple Jr. ( born March 27, 1923 in Mount Kisko, New York, † March 28, 2014 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American author who was known primarily as a screenwriter.

Life

After graduating from Brooks School in North Andover (Massachusetts ) finished Lorenzo Semple Junior in 1944 to study at Yale University, to serve only as an ambulance driver, and then during World War II the United States Army. But he later received a Bronze Star, where he received these his own words only " for survival, while others died ". After his return to the U.S. he realized that he still wanted to write, so he, after he was already in 1951 a few short stories in Collier's and The Saturday Evening Post published and his first play Tonight in Samarkand in 1955 premiered on Broadway, according to Hollywood moved to a screenwriter to try his luck. With The Golden Fleecing 1959 his second play lists. Directed by Richard Thorpe was filmed in 1961 with Steve McQueen in the title role as The Marriage machine.

After he occasionally wrote screenplays for several series, he moved with his young family to Spain, where he received an offer to write the pilot episode of the new Batman series. The accompanying TV movie Batman never never holds the world in suspense followed by other films such as King Kong, The angel with the assassin's hand, which he received in 1968 an award from the New York Film Critics Circle Awards for Best Screenplay, and the James Bond film Say. Overall, he was involved in more than 30 film and television productions, most recently in the early 1990s.

Lorenzo Semple Jr. had a son and two daughters, one of which is the screenwriter and producer Maria Semple.
