Louis Boulanger

Louis Boulanger (* March 11, 1807 in Vercelli, Piedmont, † March 7, 1867 in Dijon ) was a French Romantic painter.

Boulanger, son of French parents, occurred in 1821 in the École des Beaux -Arts and was a student Guillon - Lethières and Eugène Deveria. From 1827 to 1864 he exhibited at the Salon de Paris. He undertook accompanied by Alexadre Dumas the Elder, a trip to Tunisia.

In 1860 he was appointed director of the École des Beaux -Arts in Dijon.

Louis Boulanger died in 1867 at the age of 59 years in Dijon.

Work

A close friend of Victor Hugo, he created a series of illustrations to his works and also took the motifs for his paintings and Chateaubriand's poems ( Lucrezia Borgia and Velledas reverie ) as vice versa Victor Hugo dedicated his numerous poems.
