Louis Feuillée

Louis Éconches Feuillée ( born April 18, 1660 in Mane in Forcalquier in Provence, † 1732 in Marseille) was a French Paulaner Father, Explorer, astronomer, geographer and botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Feuillée ".

Life

Feuillée was trained by Jean Mathieu de Chazelles and Charles Plumier in geography and natural history. In 1699 he traveled to the eastern Mediterranean coast, from 1703 to 1706 was followed by a research trip to the West Indies and the northern coast of South America. 1707 to 1711 he undertook another voyage to South America to explore the coastal regions of Argentina, Chile and Peru.

The results of his travels he published after his return to France in 1714 bis 1725th Louis XIV gave him build a spacious residence with gratitude Observatory at Marseilles.

A final research trip led Feuillée 1724 on the western Canary Islands.

Honors

Carl Linnaeus named in his honor the genus Fevillea of the plant family Cucurbitaceae ( Cucurbitaceae ).

The International Astronomical Union named 1935 Feuillée crater on Earth's Moon after him.
