Louis Galloche

Louis Galloche ( born August 24, 1670 in Paris, † July 21, 1761 in Paris) was a French painter. He is best known as the teacher of important artists such as François Lemoyne, Charles -Joseph Natoire and François Boucher.

Life

Louis Galloche was provided by his father, a woodcarver for a clerical career. At thirteen, he received the tonsure. Because of his talent, he left the theology and entered the school of painting by Louis de Boulogne. 1695 his picture was Jacob's sons to their father 's skirt Josephs with a first prize. After a sojourn in Italy, he returned to Paris, where he opened his own art school.

In 1711 he was admitted to the Académie Royale, 1720 and 1754 was appointed professor in 1746 rector chancellor. Galloche created numerous paintings with historical and religious motives. After health reasons no longer could paint the age of 80 years, he wrote five discourses that were read at the meetings of the Academy.
