Louis Ginzberg

Louis Ginzberg ( born November 28, 1873 in Kovno, † November 11, 1953 in New York ) was a leading conservative Jewish scholar in the United States. About fifty years he taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary and wrote during his life hundreds of books on Talmudic and rabbinic themes.

Life

He studied in Berlin, Strasbourg and Heidelberg, 1898 Dr. phil., 1899 went to America, was a member of the Jewish Encyclopedia and since 1902 professor of Talmud and rabbinical studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.

He was also chairman of the American Academy for Jewish Learning.
