Louis II de la Trémoille

Louis II de La Trémoille, also wrote La Trémouille, (born 20 or September 29, 1460 in Bommier ( Indre ), † February 24, 1525 at Pavia) was as a member of La Trémoille a French military leader and grandson of Georges de La Trémoille, the favorite of King Charles VII

Private life

Louis was between 1488 and his death in the 35th Viscount of Thouars and contributed a number of other titles of nobility. He married on July 28, 1484 Gabrielle de Bourbon, daughter of Louis de Bourbon, with whom he had a year later, the son of Charles. Louis survived Charles, who fell at Marignano in 1515. On November 30, 1516 Gabrielle died. Then he married forty years younger Louise de Valentinois, daughter of Cesare Borgia.

The general

La Guerre folle Trémoille commanded in 1488 the army of Charles VIII against the Duke of Brittany in the victorious battle of St. Aubin. In 1496 he fought in Fornovo the breakthrough of the French by the Lombardy. Louis XII. appointed him in 1500 back to the top commander in Italy, which he took as Milan. In 1503 he fought but unhappy in Naples against Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba y Aguilar. Later he was in the battles of Novara ( 1513) and Marignano ( 1515) involved. He also took part in the campaigns against the British in Picardy.

Louis II de La Trémoille fell 24 February 1525 at the Battle of Pavia by Spanish arquebusiers. As Viscount of Thouars was succeeded by his grandson François de La Trémoille.
