Louis-Marie Billé

Louis -Marie Cardinal Billé ( born February 18, 1938 in Fleury- les- Aubrais, Loiret, France, † March 12 2002 in Bordeaux) was Archbishop of Lyon.

Life

Louis -Marie Billé studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Luçon, Angers, Rome and Jerusalem. He specialized in Biblical theology and received on 25 March 1962, the sacrament of Holy Orders. From 1966 to 1972 he worked as a lecturer at the Seminary of Luçon, 1972 to 1977, he provided the same task at the Seminary of La Roche- sur -Yon. From 1977 to 1980 he was the responsible minister for the French lay movement and also worked for the National Council of Priests of his home country.

In the years 1980-1984 Louis -Marie Billé performed the duties of the episcopal Vicar and Archdeacon of skin Bocage. Pope John Paul II appointed him on 10 May 1984 to the Bishop of Laval. He received his episcopal consecration on 19 May 1984, the Bishop of Luçon Charles -Auguste -Marie Paty; Co-consecrators were his predecessor, Bishop Paul -Louis Carrière and the Auxiliary Bishop of Bordeaux, Jacques David.

In 1995, by John Paul II appointed Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Aix, Arles and Embrun. On 10 July 1998, Louis -Marie Billé Archbishop of Lyon; it entails the honorary title of Primate of the Gauls, who distinguished him as the highest Catholic dignitaries in France. On 21 February 2001, Pope John Paul II was a cardinal priest with the titular church of St. Peter in Chains to the College of Cardinals. In the same year his titular church of Santissima Trinità al Monte Pincio was transferred.

Louis -Marie Cardinal Billé died on 12 March 2002 from the effects of cancer in Bordeaux and was buried in the cathedral of Lyon.
