Louis Mékarski

Louis Mekarski ( pl. Ludwik Mekarski ) (* 1843 in Clermont- Ferrand, France, † 1923) was a French designer of Polish descent.

In 1870 Ludwik Mekarski constructed a pneumatic drive for trams. 1876 ​​Mekarski won the concession to operate a tramway in Nantes, in 1879 their operation resumed. Trams according to the principle of Mekarski were also in the cities of Vichy (1895 ), Aix -les- Bains (1896 ), La Rochelle ( 1899) and Saint- Quentin (1901 ) in operation. In the Tram Bern was 1894-1901 before electrification also a tram line with Mékarskis compressed air system is in operation. Today, the Rue Louis Mekarski is named after him in Nantes.
