Louisburgh (County Mayo)

Province

Louisburgh ( Irish: Cluain Cearbán - " meadow of buttercups " ) is located south of Clew Bay in County Mayo in the province of Connacht in Ireland. In the village the Sancta Maria College and Grace O'Malley Interpretive Centre are.

History

The place was originally built as planned and has preserved to this day much of the former appearance. 1795 Location of 3rd Earl of Altamount, later 1st Marquess of Sligo, John Denis Browne was established from Westport to Catholic refugees from the north of Ireland take up who had fled religious grounds. He named the city in honor of his uncle - Captain Henry Browne - who fought against the French in 1758 Louisbourg. Louisbourg was a fort on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Location

Louisburgh is on Bunowen River, which is known for its salmon. From Roonagh Pier, about 6 km west of the town, go for ferries to Clare Iceland and Inishturk. It is near several beaches that are well known for their cleanliness.

East of the village of Croagh Patrick is located on the St Patrick is said to have lived for 40 days. To the west lie the Sheaffrey Hills and south of the Mweelrea Mountains.

Traffic

To the east is a road connection ( R335 ) on Kilsallagh and Murrisk Westport, to the south sits down on the R335 Cregganbaun, past the lake Doo Lough, through the Doo Lough Pass to Delphi ( Galway). To the west continues a further road via Killadoon and Kinnadoonhy to end up on the coast near the Tonakeera Point.

Economy

In the village there are facilities for anglers, surfers, hikers and other recreational activities.

Attractions and Events

The theater of the place has received the founding of the " Ceol agus Drama i gCluain Cearbán " (Music and Drama in Louisburgh ) a new boost. The group primarily makes children's theater and pantomime representations.

Once a year, on " May Bank Holiday" weekend finds the music festival " Féile Choi Chuan " for traditional music and attracts visitors from home and abroad.
