Louise Elisabeth of Courland

Louise Elisabeth of Courland ( born August 12, 1646 Jelgava, † December 16, 1690 in Weferlingen ) was a princess of Courland from the family Ketteler and by marriage Countess of Hesse- Homburg.

Life

Louise Elisabeth was a daughter of the Duke Jacob of Courland (1610-1662) from his marriage to Luise Charlotte (1617-1676), eldest daughter of the Elector George William of Brandenburg.

On October 23, 1670 married in Coelln later to become the Landgrave Frederick II of Hesse- Homburg, the famous Prince of Homburg. For the sake of the marriage Frederick was converted to the Reformed faith. The faith crossing brought him into closer relations with the princely houses also reformist in Brandenburg and Hessen- Kassel, where Luise Elisabeth's sister Amalia was since 1673 Landgravine. Louise Elisabeth was a niece of the Elector Friedrich Wilhelm of Brandenburg, which Friedrich entered the Prussian service, and soon commander of all troops of the electorate was.
