Love and Rockets (Band)

Love and Rockets was a British alternative band that was founded in 1985 by former members of Bauhaus and 1999 for the first time, in 2009 finally dissolved. They also performed under the pseudonym The Bubblemen.

History

The time between the Bauhaus and the band's formation

After the dissolution of the band Bauhaus in 1983, the members pursued various projects. While vocalist Peter Murphy began a solo career, Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins played from 1982 to 1984 in the band Tones On Tail.

1985-1999

In 1985, Ash, Haskins and J got together and formed Love and Rockets. The group took its name from the eponymous comic book series by Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez.

In the first four albums, the musicians moving consistently away from the gothic rock image, set the trend for the Bauhaus. Typical of this was already their first hit Ball of Confusion, a cover of the Motown classic by the Temptations. Influences of various styles such as psychedelic rock, post-punk, glam rock and folk initially given their music.

In 1989 they succeeded with their album So Alive by Love and Rockets big break. The single reached # 3 on the U.S. charts and was a hit in many countries. After extensive touring and three years later they recorded the album Hot Trip to Heaven, on which they are away from the rock of the early years, developed towards more electronic influences. During the recording of the next album Sweet FA broke in April 1995 at the home of Rick Rubin, in which the band lived during the recordings and worked a fire. While the musicians were unharmed, but they visiting musician friends Genesis P -Orridge suffered in the incident serious burns. After a long legal battle, it was confirmed the musicians to be innocent of the outbreak of fire. 1998 appeared the last album lift, and in 1999 the group split up. Meanwhile, there had already been a comeback of Bauhaus.

Reunification in 2007

In October 2007 the band announced on their MySpace page that she wanted to get together again for the recording of a song for two performances. 2008 yet was followed by other concerts in the United States. 2009 Daniel Ash told in an interview that there were no plans for further cooperation.

In 2009 they had a tribute album called New Tales to Tell, with contributions from, among others, Black Francis, Blaqk Audio, The Dandy Warhols, The Flaming Lips and Monster Magnet.
