Classification

The album marked a decisive turning point in the history of the Lemonheads. So Lovey is not only the first release on the major label Atlantic, but also the first in an almost completely new cast. From the old Evan Dando formation only remained, giving the impression confirmed that this is a solo project of musician with The Lemonheads.

Also musically treading Lovey new ways. The rough punk guitars that could be heard in the early days of the band history. It outweigh short, melodic up tempo songs like Left for Dead or Stove. To hear are songs like Li'l Seed that are tricky and less catchy. The Gram Parsons song Brass Botton continues a tradition of the band, take cover versions of popular American musician. So have reinterpreted the Lemonheads Luka by Suzanne Vega or Mrs. Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel.

Commercially the album was largely ignored. Success only came with the follow-up album It's a Shame About Ray, which was released three years later.
