Lower Guinea

Lower Guinea is a region in parts of Central and South-West Africa. Together with the region of Upper Guinea, it forms the Guinea region.

Lower Guinea ranges from Cameroon to Angola. The landscape is dominated by the low- threshold Guinea and has a narrow coastal strip with tropical rainforest and savannas. The largest river is the Congo.

Different definition

In the Ichthyology is denoted by low Guinea, the region is drained by the rivers Cross River, Wouri, Sanaga, Mbini, Komo, Ogooué, Nyanga, Bouenza and Kouilou (including all tributaries ). The region covers then southeastern Nigeria, West and Central Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, the Republic of Congo to the west, the north of Cabinda and the immediately adjacent to the northern Cabinda part of the Bas-Congo province in the Democratic Republic of Congo. With this definition of the Congo does not belong to the region of Lower Guinea.
