Lower Silesian Voivodeship

Lower Silesia (Polish: województwo dolnośląskie ) is one of the 16 regions into which the Republic of Poland organized. It covers the southwestern part of Poland and borders within the country to the provinces Lebus (north), Greater Poland (Northeast ) and Opole (Southeast ) and on the southwest by the German and Czech border. In the south of Lower Silesia is to the to the Sudeten belonging Giant Mountains one of the most important tourist regions in Poland. Capital is Wrocław.

The province was named after the region of Lower Silesia.

The Lower Silesian Voivodeship is divided into 26 counties, four cities which remain acyclic. They develop under their name also a county, it does not belong to itself. Lower Silesia is also divided into three districts ( Administrative Region):

The provincial capital Breslau, with around 633,000 inhabitants, is the fourth largest city in the country and by far the largest of the Lower Silesia Province.

Economy

Expressed in comparison with the EU GDP in purchasing power standards reached the province in 2006 an index of 56.0 (EU-27 = 100). The unemployment rate in 2005 was 22.8 percent. Until December 2009 it dropped to 12.5 percent.
