Lucho Bermúdez

Luis Eduardo Bermúdez ( born January 25, 1912 in El Carmen de Bolívar; † April 23, 1994 in Bogotá ) was a Colombian composer.

Bermúdez, who has already composed as a child, military marches and waltzes, studied in Santa Maria. In the local military band he played piccolo, flute, trombone, euphonium, trumpet, alto saxophone and clarinet. In the 1930s he came to Cartagena, where he. Orchestra A No. founded by Pianeta Pitalua 1 initiated.

For radio Cartagena he played a one of the first created in Colombia recordings, the Porro Marbella. In 1939 he founded the Orquesta del Caribe, with whom he released recordings in Bogotá. In 1946 he traveled to Buenos Aires, where he recorded with singer Matilde Diaz. A few months later he went to Medellín and founded here the Orquesta de Lucho Bermúdez, which included the composer Alejandro Tobar belonged. It was here that recordings such Salsipuedes and San Fernando, are considered milestones of the Colombian discography.

In 1950 Bermúdez in Mexico more than 50 plates. He worked here together with musicians such as Benny Moré, Damaso Perez Prado and Tito Rodríguez. In 1951 he was invited by Ernesto Lecuona to Cuba. Here he worked with La Sonora Matancera, Los Billo 's Caracas Boys and Los Melódicos. After his return to Colombia he worked until his death in Medellín.

Bermúdez is considered one of the most important composers and performers of Colombian folk music in the 20th century. He was one of the first composers who joined the Caribbean rhythms of Porros, cumbias, Gaitas, Fandango, Mapalés, Paseos and Merengues with the language of contemporary music.
