Lucifer titi

The Lucifer Titi ( Callicebus lucifer ) is a primate of the species of titi monkeys within the family of Sakiaffen ( Pitheciidae ). He was regarded until recently as a subspecies of Collared Titi Monkey.

Features

Lucifer titi monkeys are like all titi monkeys relatively small primate with a long, bushy tail, fluffy hairs and a small, rounded head. The coat is predominantly black in color or black and gray, the back coloring goes towards brown or reddish. The head is black at the top, on the throat is a transverse, white collar drawing. The hands are conspicuously colored orange. The hind legs are relatively long, as with all titi monkeys, the tail, which is longer than the body, can not be used as a prehensile tail.

Distribution and habitat

Lucifer titi monkeys live in the western Amazon Basin in southern Colombia, western Brazil, eastern Ecuador and northern Peru. Its distribution area is bounded on the north by Japurá and in the south by the Solimões. Their habitat is forests.

Way of life

Little is known about the life of Lucifer titi monkeys, probably agrees with that of the other titi monkeys match. They are diurnal and usually stay up in the trees. There, they move away either on all fours or jumping. Titi monkeys live in monogamous family groups, where partners often stay together for life. These groups inhabiting a fixed territory, which they mark with morning duet songs.
