Lucius Cornelius Scipio Barbatus

Lucius Cornelius Scipio barbatus from the branch of the Scipios from the gene of Cornelius was a Roman politician and military.

Lucius Cornelius Scipio barbatus was not the first representative of the branch of the family, was probably still considered as the progenitor of the family. Well 301 BC, he held the position of Ädils, 298 BC Gnaeus Fulvius Maximus Centumalus with the consulate. In this role, he successfully fought in Etruria. He took Taurasia and a Cisauma, overthrew the whole Lucania and Samnium briefly. The Elogium on which the deeds are portrayed is, may have been created later. Propraetor was Barbatus 295 BC, censor in 280 BC and probably before 304 BC, he was Pontifex Maximus, and remained so until his death after 280 BC

He was buried in the first grave of the Scipios. His sarcophagus ( " Peperinsarkophag " ) is now in the Vatican Museums.
