Luckow, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Luckow is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern - Greifswald in the extreme east of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The community is on the Szczecin Lagoon, based in Eggesin managed by the Office.

Geography

The community Luckow at the land and sea border with the Republic of Poland is only 4 km from the Szczecin Lagoon and 4 km from the lake Neuwarper. It is located in the north of the Ueckermünder Heath in flachwelligem grounds just a few meters above sea level. NN.

The nature reserve Neuwarper lakeside / island Riether Werder is located in the municipal area.

History

Luckow

The south bank and the hinterland of the Szczecin Lagoon was settled thousands of years ago, which spearheads and hand ax finds attest. The place itself was a Slavic conditioning, in 1260 he was appointed as Luckowe ( in German: meadow land ) mentioned in a document in a transfer certificate. The district Mönkeberg was - as the name suggests - founded by Ueckermünder monks in 1290. The half-timbered church in Luckow was built in 1726. Luckow was until 1782 in the possession of those of Broecker and Muckerwitz. The district Christian Berg in 1822 created and populated with day laborers. The main source of income was and is - apart from a few craft shops - agriculture.

Rieth

Rieth - independent municipality until 31 December 1997 - is the northernmost German border town of the Republic of Poland on the mainland.

Christian Berg

The privately -scale from 1982 Botanical Garden Christian Berg includes a collection of plants from all over the world. In addition to the deciduous and coniferous trees and magnolias there are more than 300 rhododendron plants, a perennial area, a heather garden and a rock garden.

Fraud Horst

Near Fraud Horst probably the oldest group of yew stands in Germany - the trees are between 500 and 800 years old.
