Reception

The first 5 volumes of the manga have sold to September 2008, more than 2 million times.

In particular, the director Yutaka Yamamoto -produced television series Kannagi showed several allusions to Lucky Star. So he entered himself as a fictional character in the 5th episode and played on his banishment from Kyoto animation. In the tenth episode of Kannagi, which exclusively dealt with karaoke, was only behind a closed door hearing Karaoke deposits parodied several times in the closing credits of Lucky Star. At first only indicated by the same scene design, Jin Mikuriya finally confused the room door and finds himself in space 301 between the main characters from Lucky Star again.

But Kannagi is not the only anime of allusions or parodies contains at Lucky Star. Thus, several works by Kyoto Animation were touted as " figurehead of Japan " and next to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star several times alluded to in deliberately poor quality, as it should be a forgery in the first OVA of Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei.

In the August 2007 issue of Newtype magazine, an article was published about the real locations in the west of Saitama Prefecture that were shown in the anime, as Konatas home in Satte, Tsukasa and Kagami Hiiragis house in Washimiya (2010 amalgamated with Kuki ) and the school in Kasukabe including how to reach these places from the otaku stronghold of Akihabara. Particularly large influx had the Washinomiya Shrine, one of the oldest shrines in Kanto, the Hiiragi sisters work in the anime than Miko. The " pilgrim " Otaku attached Ema on with statements / prayers like " Konata is my wife. " (こなた は オレ の 嫁.アハッ,アハッ,アハッ... Konata wa Ore no Yome. Aha, aha, aha ... ). In the New Year scream Visit ( hatsumōde ) 2007 300,000 people visited the shrine, 170,000 more than last year. In the New Year Visit 2008, the number increased by a further 120,000 to 420,000 people, which he was after the Hikawa Shrine of the second most visited in the prefecture. Throughout the prefecture the New Year shrine and temple attendance increase by only 10 % for comparison. For annual procession to the shrine in September - the Hajisai (土 师 祭) - used the shrine mikoshi 2008 with Lucky Star theme. The seats of the 115 persons who are required to wear this 1.80 m high, 1.60 m wide and 130 kg mikoshi, were filled within 3 days with volunteers even from the distant prefectures of Hiroshima and Miyagi.

Takeshi Okamoto of the University of Hokkaido also looked at the impact of pilgrimages of anime fans. He summed this up as a similar behavior for tourists, with the fans at first little interest would have to communicate with other participants or to deal with the religious backgrounds. Instead, the fans would more or less spontaneous meeting to organize the real places that served the fictional series as a backdrop to visit. But It would also increasingly to cooperation between the tourists and the local residents.
