Luding Bridge

The Luding Bridge ( Tib: lcags - zam, Tibetan: ལྕགས་ཟམ, Chinese泸定桥, Pinyin Luding qiao ) in the same circle Luding ( Cagsam ), Sichuan, China, is a chain bridge over the Dadu River ( Dadu He ). It was built in 1706. Has a span of 100 m, it is 2.8 meters wide and is about 14 feet above the water. It consists of a total of 13 iron chains, one of which weighs 2.5 tons each, and are anchored in huge stone pillars. Nine parallel from shore to shore drawn chains are covered with wooden planks, 2 chains on each side serve as railings. Early 20th century, the bridge was renovated, strengthened and supplemented by the side chains.

The conquest and crossing the bridge by soldiers of the Red Army end in May 1935 one of the great, legendary exploits of the Long March. The troops succeeded in escaping the pursuing them Kuomintang troops.

The bridge stands since 1961 on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 1-22).
