Ludmannsdorf

Ludmannsdorf (Slovenian: Bilčovs ) is a bilingual municipality with 1814 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Carinthia. The municipality is located in Rosental between the Wörthersee lake and the river Drava.

Geography

Geographical location

The territory of Ludmannsdorf extends north of the Drava River and south of Lake Wörth between the communities Velden and Köttmannsdorf. It lies on the heavily forested ridge of the Sattnitz, an end moraine of the ice age, and overlooks the Rose Valley and the Karavanke. The altitude of the municipality lies between 600 and 900 meters.

Ludmannsdorf consists of the five cadastral Ludmannsdorf ( Bilčovs ), United Kleinberg ( Mala gora ), Oberdörfl ( Zgornja vesca), Selkach ( Želuče ) and Weller village ( Velinja vas ). The municipality includes the following 17 villages ( population figures as at 31 October 2011):

History

Since the settlement of the area by the Carantanians - Slavs in the 6th century. and the establishment of Carantanian statehood in the 7th century, the field of Sattnitz ( Slow Gure ) and Ludmannsdorf / Bilčovs closely connected with the Slovenian cultural history.

In 1141, Ludmannsdorf / Bilčovs was first mentioned. The up to now strongly influenced by smallholders area had a high proportion of small chaste and was dominated since the High Middle Ages to 1848 by the dominions Hollenburg and Viktring.

Emperor Joseph II elevated the town to the parish in 1787. The Church of St. James, symbol of the community, comes in part from the 13th century and contains both Romanesque and Gothic styles. The interior of the church has Baroque style in the 18th century.

During the French Wars Ludmannsdorf was divided from 1809 to 1813 between the French Illyrian province and the Empire of Austria. The border between the two countries went something along the line Rupertiberg - Selkach. In 1813, the French were defeated at Rosegg and expelled from Carinthia.

1850 constituted the municipalities Ludmannsdorf and Oberdörfl. The latter was in 1957/58 resolved as a local church and incorporated to Ludmannsdorf.

In the community with traditionally high proportion of Carinthian Slovenes voted in the referendum in 1920 in Carinthia, about four -fifths ( Ludmannsdorf ) or two thirds ( Oberdörfl ) for connection to Yugoslavia.

Population

According to the 2001 census, the municipality has Ludmannsdorf 1,825 inhabitants, of which 96.5 % have Austrian citizenship. 69% of the population belong to the German-speaking and 28% of the Slovene-speaking minority.

For the Roman Catholic Church to 90.9 % of the community population 1.5% profess the Protestant Church 2.0% and Islam. 3.5 % have no religious confession. Honorary canon canon Leopold Kassl was pastor of the Catholic parish.

The Catholic parish is held in two languages ​​, German and Slovenian.

Demographics

The Slovenian dialect

Ludmannsodrf counts typologically to the Slovenian dialect group of the so-called Rosental dialect or to its north-western variety of the Sattnitz ( Gure ). Characteristic are numerous phonetic, morphological and lexical archaisms.

The autochthonous Slovene name of the inhabitants of the Sattnitz ( Slow Gure = mountain area ) is Gorjanci (unlike the names of the inhabitants of low-lying Klagenfurt field Poljanci < polje = field).

Culture and sights

The community has many cultural, sporting and other clubs, the most famous is the Slovenian Cultural Association Bilka. Two internationally known artists come from Ludmannsdorf: the writer and the painter Janko Ferk Meina Schellander.

The system established under the title " Drava kind of" land art project of " Kunstbau Saager " is a landscape design of the three artist Edmund Hoke, Tomas Hoke and Armin Guerino. With the water forms snail, swirls and roll the three designers formed the left by the Draustau bay at Selkach. Nature, art and technology were added to a growing unit that is available to visitors. On the hill " ziggurat " on the shaft and chain in the swirl -shaped harbor offers new perspectives to come to the Drava and the mountains closer.

In the municipality, there are numerous roadside crosses and shrines. In the vicinity of the reservoir bridge to Maria Elend in the small village Selkach is this massive shrine from the 16th century with shallow arched niches under his pyramid shingle roof. The painting dates from the first half of the 19th century.

Economy and infrastructure

The economic life of the community is mainly dominated by the timber industry; in Ludmannsdorf are six Joinery, Carpentry two and three sawmills located. The largest employer in the community, and therefore the region is the company's timber Gasser GmbH.

Coat of arms

In the coat of arms of Ludmannsdorf the traditional economic peculiarities of today's municipal area are expressed. The two golden tooth flanks symbolize saw blades and thus the timber extraction and processing, the basket weave in between is reminiscent of the - no longer operated - basketry and straw processing including on straw hats, formerly possessed a regional importance as a cottage industry. The blue shield base alludes to the situation of the municipality between the Drava and the Keutschacher Seental and Lake Wörth.

Coat of arms and flag were presented to the community on March 5, 2002. The flag is yellow-blue with integrated crest. The official blazon reads: " In blue with gold tooth flanks pale as a golden, black lined wicker. "
