Ludvik Zajc

Ludvik Zajc ( born January 21, 1943 in Jesenice, † July 18, 2011 in Oslo) was a Slovenian ski jumper and ski coach.

Career

His international debut Zajc at the Four Hills Tournament 1961 /62. After a slow start during the first three competitions he achieved his best result of the tour at the conclusion jumping on the Paul Ausserleitner hill in Bischofshofen. In the overall standings, he reached the 38th place. In the following Nordic World Ski Championships 1962 in Zakopane Zajc jumped with 89.5 and 89 meters on the large hill on the 38th. From the normal hill, he finished after two jumps of 64.5 meters in 25th place, level on points with the Norwegian Arne Dalslaaen.

In the following Four Hills Tournament 1962/63 is Zajc slightly increased and reached despite weaker individual performances at the end of 27th place overall. The Four Hills Tournament 1963/64, he finished a year later only ranked 39 overall. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 in Innsbruck Zajc reached rank 39 on the normal hill and the large hill Rank 42

With the Four Hills Tournament 1964/65 Zajc finally denied the best tour of his career. So he started with a surprising fourth place on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf. Moreover, He also reached the best tour solo result of his career. Despite this success, he did not start in Garmisch -Partenkirchen and Innsbruck. Only in Bischofshofen, he pointed with his sixth place once again a very good jumping performance. In the overall standings, it was enough for Zajc with these two results to rank 10

In Oslo, he jumped at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1966 on the normal hill on 73 and 70 meters and reached the 42nd place. From the normal hill he was able to increase its placement easy and landed after jumps of 68.5 and 69.5 meters on the 40th place.

At the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble Zajc turned again his skills to the test. So he ended up after good performances on the normal hill on points with Manfred mercury and Gari Napalkow in 14th place. From the large hill he reached ninth once again a top 10 placement. When Holmenkollen ski festival in 1968, he took third place and therefore his best individual score ever in an international A-class jumping.

Also in the following Four Hills Tournament 1968/69 he jumped in Oberstdorf again to ninth and reached another good results at the end of the 16th place in the overall standings. It was his last tour at this high level. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1970 in Štrbské Pleso he jumped from the large hill on 90 and 98 meters and landed so tied with the Finn Raimo Ekholm on the 15th Place. From the normal hill he landed at 79 and 75 meters, reaching rank 19

After the end of his active career Zajc began in 1972 in his home country to work as a ski coach. Later he supervised ski jumpers and Nordic combined in Italy, Slovenia and Norway. In the 1990s, he was the first coach of Slovenia. From 1998 to 2002 he was responsible for the Norwegian national ski jumping.

On 9 June 2011, he was officially recognized by the Norwegian Ski in Ski Museum, which he supported for years as a consultant by the President of the Association Sverre Seeberg and K. by NATO Secretary General Truls Jahnsen for his achievements.
