Ludwig Buchhorn

Karl Ludwig Bernhard Christian book Horn ( born April 18, 1770 in Halberstadt, † November 13, 1856 in Berlin) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Life

Between 1790 and 1793 was, inter alia, Ludwig Horn Book at the Art Academy of Berlin and there Students at Daniel Berger. In addition to aquatint and lithography Buchhornplatz took over from his teachers and the technology in Crayon style.

1797 got Buchhornplatz a job as a draftsman and engraver at the Chalkographischen society to Dessau, where he worked until 1803. Thereafter, he was for a time as a freelance artist working.

In 1806 he settled in Berlin and worked again with the Academy. 1811 took him the Academy as ordentl. Member, and three years later he was appointed as a lecturer in drawing and engraving. In the same year Buchhornplatz founded together with some colleagues the Berlinischen Artists Club.

After the death of his teacher Daniel Berger was entrusted Book Horn in 1824 with the leadership of the Academic engraver school. During his teaching Buchhornplatz had many disciples; inter alia, are here Friedrich Eduard Eichen, Rudolf Hertzberg, Hermann Kramer Edward Mandel, Adolph Schroedter mentioned.

In his early works "copying " old master was a major focus of his work. Influenced by Franz Krüger and Johann Gottfried Schadow was Buchhornplatz but soon to his own style and worked in his late works, more and more, " according to nature ". Book horn was the time, in addition Schadow, one of the more significant signatories in Berlin.
